I'm NOT a Closet Case!

Does ur closet have u running to it and slamming its doors, padlocking it when company comes over? Do ur animals skitter under ur bed in terror? Do ur piles of clothing and items have their own weather environment because they are just that huge? No fear my smexy peeps, I do have some ideas, lol. :)

One thing I think a closet needs is shelving and drawers, if possible. Buy a small book shelf and add pull out containers to the shelves, or place a smallish dresser inside. The Dollar Stores in ur area carry many different types of containers and sizes vary from extra small to extra large. Baskets and jars make excellent storage containers, as do boxes u can decorate urself. Once u have what u like ready for ur closet, empty ur closet unto ur bed, take everything out of it, leave it bare as a newborns bottom and look inside, just look and see where u can place things. Where do u want that bookshelf or dresser? Where would ur containers, boxes, etc look best?

Next step, go through ur items. Grab 4 large totes (available at almost all department stores). Mark them, 1: keep, 2: throw away 3: donate or sell and 4: store for a different season, holiday, etc.

U can keep these shelves and the dresser organized by adding dividers for ur items. Shallow drawers are great for small items such as make-up, jewelry, watches and even change u have laying around. Larger deeper drawers can be separated with dividers or even Dollar Store containers (like shoe box style or smaller) to place ur bras, underwear, sock and even tank tops.

There are special hangers u can purchase just for scarves and belts, which might be an interest to u, also men and ties could use those hangers, another way to store them is to roll them from one end to the next and place them in a clear or marked plastic shoe box with a lid.

Closets with big deep open spaces and shelves usually collect a mess, things get lost behind other things and it causes havoc for u with digging to find what ur looking for. Once u get all the storage containers and pull out drawer boxes and shelving into place, and u have sorted through and kept what u are REALLY going to use, then its time to put in some lighting, especially if ur closet is a dark space. Many department stores carry battery operated lights u mount to the wall or ceiling. Find what looks best for u and add that to ur revamped closet space.

Sometimes open shelves are beneficial so dont over crowd ur closet with to many boxes and containers, hats can be left out on an open shelf to reach and grab quickly on a hot sunny day to protect ur skin. Purses can be places side by side on an open shelf. A good way for them to keep their shape is to stuff them with pretty and scented tissue paper. A great way to get inspired in the morning is to designate an area in ur closet to display ur next days outfit (if u have the room). If u have the room in the room ur closet is in, create a dressing area...this could be near ur make-up vanity, or the side of ur bed, etc. U can even add pictures of ur favorite designers, outfits, or colors for inspiration when getting dressed.

Now that things are sorted, put all items of the store for a different season tote on the top shelf of ur closet or in an area where u can safely store these pieces until needed. Take and immediately give away the donate tote so u are not tempted to pull something out of it and want to keep it...u know it doesnt belong with u anymore, let someone else enjoy it. :) Immediately throw away all junk thats ripped, stained, broken, etc. Dont think twice on it, just trash it, its clogging up ur life and the style of ur closet. Focus on ur keep tote. Those are all the things u willbe putting back into ur closet. Think on how u want ur closet to be and then begin placing the items back.

Hang ur clothing, like items, together...pants, skits, shirts, jackets, etc. Hang them by color, light to dark for ease in matching. Using the same colored hangers makes the closet look more clean cut. This will create a more organized looking collection that makes pieces easy to find and have u looking great.

Once ur closet is a beautiful creation of uncluttered items, u need to keep it that way. Put items in their place as u use them. :) If u find that a part looks cluttered to u often, switch it up and make it more organized, think of what would look best in that area. Move things around till u get the desired look and feel.And make it a habit to throw out the stained, unfixable items and to donate ur goodies to others who would love to have them. :)
